2nd Week of Advent – Pastoral Letter

Dearest Community,

With the weather turning cold and the snow that fell earlier this week (although not enough to close school), it really is starting to feel like Advent to me. I’ve found over the years that sometimes it takes a week or so before it really sinks in. We really are awaiting the birth of God-With-Us.

How often is our waiting for something that is far off – that summer vacation, next weekend, or Christmas morning? It seems that planning is what we do best, at least in the dreaming about what could be. Sometimes it is an escape from what is right around us: the snow and frost on the windshield, having to return the library books, and let’s please remember to fill the car with gas on the way home.

And yet, Advent is a time to remember to pay attention to the here and now. For while we are looking towards the horizon, God-With-Us has a way of suddenly standing next to us.

May we experience the Christ in the images of those around us this Advent.

Blessings,
